The beginning of a new year is always a time for reflection and setting personal resolutions such as exercising more and travelling. But what about workplace safety resolutions?
Since we spend so much of our time at work, it makes sense to ensure that the workplace we are working in is safe.
Now is a great opportunity to review your workplace to ensure the appropriate policies and procedures are in place and the work environment you operate in meets Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislative requirements.
Here are a few tips that can assist in ensuring a safe workplace:
Consult with the workforce regarding WHS
Consult with your workers to determine their views on WHS and how they want WHS to be conducted or addressed in the workplace for the upcoming year.
These workers are the ones on the frontline and by having them engaged, you are more likely to succeed in ensuring a safe workplace; they are often the ones with solutions to safety issues in the workplace.
Review the work environment
Identify new hazards that could cause injury or illness and implement suitable control measures.
Review control measures for previously identified hazards to ensure they are still effective in eliminating or minimising the risks.
Review your WHS policies and procedures
It may have been some time since your company’s policies and procedures have been reviewed and the work environment, legislative requirements or company structure may have changed since then.
This may mean some policies or procedures need to be updated.
If you require any assistance in reviewing and updating your company’s WHS policies and procedures, consultation on WHS matters or would like a WHS inspection conducted at your workplace, please don’t hesitate to contact Compliance OH&S.
We would be more than happy to assist your company in ensuring your workers are kept safe and injury free in 2018!
